IVD Antibodies

Many IVD tests rely on antibodies to detect and quantify defined target molecules. These include bacterial or viral antigens which can be used to determine the presence of an infection; cytokines that can be measured to diagnose an inflammatory or autoimmune condition; and various biomarkers of cancer, cardiovascular disease or neurodegenerative disorders. With exceptional specificity and sensitivity, antibodies allow accurate detection of even low-abundance analytes in a wide range of sample types.

It is important to note that IVD grade antibodies differ from antibodies which are designated as research use only (RUO). Since IVD antibodies are typically used in a clinical setting, they are subject to different licensing regulations to assure product safety and efficacy. IVD tests which use antibodies include ELISAs to evaluate material such as blood or serum; lateral flow immunoassays for testing samples which include urine, saliva or milk; and IHC investigation of tissue sections.
